Locksmith and Marriage Problems
Locksmith work tied many times for all kinds of domestic disputes. I see a lot that is going on between men and women. I always stay natural and never take position in any argument, big or small. My clients understand the unwritten rules and keep me out of it. I am there to provide a service and that is it. You pay for changing of your locks; I will be the one doing the job.
Your problems with your partner are for you people to sort between you two. However, a locksmith is also a person and we do get exposed and aware of what that is happening around us. Like any other person. Therefore, here is one story about a story that happened. A man and a woman in a bit of dispute. A man and a woman that are tangled in life together and had an episode. An episode I experienced and will tell you of my own eyes and interpretation. My view on it and my view only.
Late Night Call in Amsterdam. Winter.
It was a cold Amsterdam night, or early morning. Not colder than usual. Just your average cold. Cold enough. Cold as usual. Freezing Amsterdam cold. It was 4AM when the phone rang at the office. I picked it up and a man was on the other side of the line. “Hello locksmiths, Zac speaking.” It was a little quiet on the other side. The person was kind of whispering.
“Hi, can you come to Amstelveen?” That was very straight question. “Sure. What is the problem?” The man was again quiet. He was almost whispering. He kept on giving me some strange instructions for the job. That is ok and part of the job, as long as it is legal. We are here to unlock doors and not judging our clients. Some are half-naked, some are funny dressed, and some can be drunk or whatever. We are there to do a job and be paid for in the best way possible.
Be Silent
The man was still there. He was asking me to park at the start of the street where he is going to meet me in half an hour. Do not park in front of the house. “I will meet you at the start of the street and we will walk to the door together”. Ok, cool. Normally we park our cars as close as we can to the door, as we have to carry our tools and maybe get back in the car if anything else is needed during the job. Nevertheless, ok, cool. Next, he mentioned payment. “I will pay you at your car, before we get to the door. Before you unlock it. When you open the door after, just go”.
Ok, cool. Normally we charge only after the job is fully completed and just before we leave. However, ok, cool. “Ah, one more thing; when you work on the door to unlock it, please use silent tools only.” Mmm, ok. A locksmith toolbox contain all kind of loud tools. A drill, electric picks, hammers and more. I have been doing this work long enough to have skills to enter silently, so I had no problem with that. I explained to the man that I would have to see an I.D with his address on it before we start, just to make sure I am not breaking anywhere illegally and he agreed. I was on my way.
Its Cold Out There
First, I tried to get under the door. Did not work. There was some kind of rubber under the door to prevent cold drift to enter the apartment. In addition, the thing prevented the under the door tool from getting under the door. I was working on the lock hoping to have it unlocked the clean and easy way. I knew it would not be easy as the lock was restricted. As I was working on the door, I informed the client of the process. I also mentioned that if there will be no way to unlock the door in a clean way, I will have to drill or snap the cylinder. No problem.
Stay out
The day after I was back at the office, doing my paperwork for the previous night. I do this every start of the day; invoices and follow-ups of our work. While I was putting the addresses of the jobs in our system, I saw something. The person yesterday. I saw that one of our locksmiths was at the same address at midnight. Doing a lockout call out. I was there few hours later, at around four AM. I was wondering. Therefore, I called our technician that visited the address before me.
Get some details, as I was curious. “Hi Sam. A question; have you been to Amstelveen as around midnight for a lockout call?” Well, he was. And this is what he told me. Therefore, that man called earlier. Around midnight. He did not give Sam the same instructions as I got. Sam just drove the van to the door and worked with his electric tools to unlock it. It is midnight. The man explained Sam that he had an argument with his wife and that she got so angry, she locked him out.
On a winter night wearing a T-shirt and shorts. The door was very quickly unlocked. The man thanked Sam and opened the door to walk in. On the inside, on the other side of the door, the man’s wife was standing in her pajamas. Very elegantly she pushed her husband back out and locked the door again. Sam looked at the man, the man looked at Sam. “I will call you again later.” The man said. Sam hagged him and jumped back in his van. “Stay warm bro.” He called to the man out of the window while he was driving off. Four hours later, 4AM, the wife is deep asleep, the man called again. Such is life.
