Being a locksmith for 11 years now, I saw a lot. Over 60,000 happy costumers gave me a mix of faces, events, scenarios and memories to last a lifetime. I saw people locked out on balconies, in their toilets, on the street and even in their cars. I saw people locked out in their suits, pyjamas, gym outfits and even naked. I met happy people, angry people, drunk people and straight as an arrow people. I have seen it all.
With all my clients, there is something in common. Something I noticed. Something that come up immediately when I first approach a client. That something comes from curiosity and the will to solve it yourself. That something comes from that human need to save and not spend money. That something made some people obsessed to the point of breaking a door or a window. That something had people injured in the process. That something is; how to open a door without a key? In other words, how can I avoid paying a locksmith? Let us dive into it.
It was four in the morning. A wet and cold Amsterdam morning. Typical January weather. I was on my way to a job at an address not far from Westerpark on one of the side streets coming off Haarlemmerdijk. I was making my way swiftly as you do. Clients can be impatient on times like this, early in the morning. As I approached the address, I saw the red lights. Flashing. Another one. So one way to get in without a key is to find an unlocked window or a balcony and simply climb over.
Sounds like a perfect solution. Until you sleep and fall. My client then in Westerpark tried to get through the back door that he thought was unlocked. To get to that door he needed to jump the fence into his back yard first. Being a little drunk, being a little wet, being a little dark, he found himself on his back and had to call the ambulance for his broken leg. If you think about jumping fences, climbing walls, wedging windows on upper levels or anything of that spirit, I would recommend you not to. Your health and safety is more important than anything else is and you do not want to have them red lights flashing around you when you’re flat on your back.

Another popular way to open a door is to get under it. Under the door. Get under it, get hold of the door handle from the inside and elegantly pull it down and open. In theory, it is possible. In real life, we locksmiths do use a special “under the door tool” to do the same. A couple of things to consider.
First
the door has to be unlocked. Unlocked and just slammed shut. Meaning you walked out and pulled the door shut behind you without using a key to lock it.
Second
you have to have a wide enough gap under the door to be able to insert the wire that will pull the handle down to open.
Third
you have to have a wire. Strong enough to hook into the handle and pull it down and thin enough to get under the door.
Forth
your doorframe should have no protection for entry of this kind. Most doors will have a step on the outside or the inside that will block an “under the door” tool to slip under it. So if you have all the above ticked and approved, and you have the skills to hook onto the handle from the outside while you lying on the ground in-front of your door and if you have the nerves of steel to control this wire, you have a good chance to unlock that door. Otherwise, Call Us – Locksmiths Amsterdam.
The profession of a Locksmith was born out of a need. The need to get back into your house when locked out. That need was created when men, and women, tried their best to get back in, and failed. They climbed, kicked, yelled and eventually looked for a locksmith. A door lock, by definition, is designed to keep you out when locked without a key. That is the whole purpose of a lock. No key, no entry. This is why it is there. It is made for that. To resist break-ins.
However, like any other situation in life, if you want to make your way in you need the right set of tools and the right set of skills. When you have them, you get it. When you do not, better call a locksmith. We will get you in, no worries..
